On Friday the 3rd June the Umborne community came out in force to celebrate the amazing achievement of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, 70 years on the throne.
The event started at 3pm with attendees bringing their own picnic to enjoy while listening to the gentle tunes provided by the Honiton Field Players. The weather stayed dry despite forecast of rain, there was even some late sunshine.
To liven things up there was a cake competition with two categories, under 10s and adults. The brief was a Celebration Cake. Many thanks goes to the judging team headed by Richard Brain and the Honiton Field Players. They had a tough job to sort out the winners. Eventually after much deliberation the winners were announced as the Regan grand children Bonnie and Evalynne. The adult winner was Helen Coverley. Helen’s amazing creation was a depiction of the Union Flag with modeled corgis. the winners received a certificate to testify to the achievement.
In addition to the cake awards, all the children attending received a certificate of attendance which will hopefully remind them of this auspicious occasion.
Many thanks to the Hall Trustees for organising this community event.
