Our 11th Umborne Ug 10k and fun run was held at Umborne Hall on Saturday 28th May at 6pm. The weather was very kind to us – we had sunshine, little wind and decent temperatures. The torrential rain which areas to the north had, held off until about 9.30pm when it was all over and we were home safe and dry!
There were 72 runners in the demanding 10k run which went up through Home Bush and towards Widworthy and back down the hill.
The race was won by Terre Emmett of Axe Valley Runners (AVR) in 43.42.
Second home was Ian Luke of Poole Runners in 45.21.
3rd and first lady home for the second year running (!) was Gemma Collier of Honiton RC in 48.31.
3rd male home was Gregory Morris in 48.38.
Flo Swan after doing a swim and a bike ride in the morning (a triathlete?) was 2nd lady in 6th place in 48.51.
3rd lady home was Emma Lake of Erme Valley Harriers in 8th place in 50.26
The vet category prizes ( all prizes were a bottle of Prosecco, 4 small jars of jams and 4 scones for a pleasant cream tea – no cream, sorry – that would have gone off in the heat!)
1st male 40+ was AVR’s Rupert Pady, 5th overall in 48.45
1st male 50+ was AVR’s John Blackledge in 9th place in 50.57
1st male 60+ was AVR’s Graham Newton, 18th in 53.26
1st female 35+ was Honiton RC’s Ceri Oak in 17th in a time of 53.23
1st female 45+ AVR’s Clare Hansford in 13th place in 51.35
1st female 55+ was AVR’s Angela Kerr in 67.03
Well done to all the 71 finishers including 22 AVR’s and 13 Honiton RC runners and thank you to the marshals, course stting out people, water station people, landowners, time -keepers and recorders, commentator, results ladies, backmarkers and a large crowd of supporters.
The Fun Run:
The 2.5k Fun Run attracted a record entry of 55 and was won by George Tomkins of Honiton RC in a record time of 9.53. 2nd was Tom Perry of AVR in 11.22 and 3rd was Jack Pellow of AVR also in 11.22.
The first girl home was Holly Eyre of AVR in 7th place in about 12.00
2nd girl was Isabella Pellow of Charmouth Primary School in 12.27, 9th overall
3rd girl was our own Izzie Coman of AVR in about 14.10
It was great to see so many runners of all ages and sizes – some very small!
After the runs, there was a bar, BBQ, hot drinks and lots of delicious cakes made by the local community
Thank you to everyone who helped with this and Eleanor of course for organising the race on the day and many other jobs. It would appear that a profit of about £1,140 was made for the hall funds. Welldone and thank you. See you all next year!
