Parish News October 2011

Working party & BBQ
We are planning to hold another work-in at Umborne Hall this coming Sunday (2nd Oct) from 3pm. The weather forecast looks excellent so we thought that we would do about 3 hrs of painting the outside of the hall and finishing the posts and rail by the stream. At about 6pm we would light the BBQ (Rob providing) and eat and have a few drinks till whenever. For the work aspect please bring work clothes and your favourite paint brush and empty tub if you want. For the BBQ please bring your own food to cook/eat and some drinks. It should be great fun and suitable for all ages. If you are able to come, please let us know so we know how many BBQ’s to get.

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
There is a meeting for all those interested in holding some sort of event to celebrate the jubilee (on June 4th). Please come armed with some ideas and enthusiasm to Shute Primary School on Thursday October 20th at 7.30pm.  The Jubilee celebrations will continue in August ( as it is jubilee year) with a festival of fun and games in Whitford the day after the Produce Show there – more details soon.

Parish of Shute and Whtiford Maps

You may have noticed that other people and halls have a large map of the parish of Shute & Whitford with lots of information and drawings on it. We still have some of these available for sale at the price of £7.50. The coloured map measures 58mm x 44mm (23″  x 16″) and was co-ordinated by Monica Windsor. The artists were:  Kay Clive-Francis, Lyn Dawson, Pat Lambert, Avril Love and Anne Williams, Calligrapher Margery Robinson. If you would like one please contact any of your councillors.
Whitford Hall Lunches
The open bar and kitchen in Whitford Village Hall on the first Sunday of the month is going well and lots of different people have enjoyed a drink and snack with friends. However, it would be appreciated if some other residents would help in some way. Perhaps you would be able to prepare something for us to eat on a Sunday lunchtime. Get together with a friend -or spouse (?!) – and think of something simple OR unusual OR full silver service. (Purchase of food/ingredients and help in using the kitchen equipment could be given.)
Suggestions for food:
Soups/ rolls, Chilli, Baked potatoes, Sausage rolls, Curry, Shepherds’ Pie – ANY snack/meal would be enthusiastically received…
ALSO…For the two hours when the bar is open we would like to have some volunteers to serve (erm, not consume!) the drinks. Full training will be given ie. how to work the till, and there will be willing helpers on the day.
