Introduction
The purpose of this questionnaire is to seek the views of everyone in the parish of Shute. The resulting Parish Plan will provide a snapshot of life in our parish today and will become an important historical record for the future. We shall be able to identify what you value, what you want to preserve and what you would like to change. In order for us to achieve this, we need to collect up to date and accurate information on conditions, views and lifestyles in the area. Your responses, as a household, will be analysed and a Parish Plan will be produced. It will be a point of reference when seeking funds or assistance from outside agencies. The Parish Plan will also be a document adopted by Shute Parish Council and used by East Devon District and Devon County Councils when making decisions which affect us all. Thank you all for taking the time to complete this questionnaire which is being delivered by hand by some of the people listed below. It will be collected by them in about 1 week’s time.

Who is organising it?
The Plan is being developed by a group of Parish volunteers who represent the local community of Shute, Whitford, Seaton Junction, Umborne and Hampton. A public launch meeting was held early in 2009 and since then the steering group has been developing the questionnaire based on what was discovered from the people at that meeting and also other questionnaires used throughout the County.
Shute Parish is situated in the East Devon District Council Area, within Devon County Council, and in the Tiverton & Honiton Parliamentary Election Constituency. A detailed Parish Map will appear in the final Parish Plan. It has five centres of population with 518 registered voters: Shute (123), Whitford (211), Umborne (90), Seaton Junction (39) and Hampton (32). The total population, in 257 properties, is over 600 people.
Confidentiality
The questionnaire is completely anonymous- you do not need to put your name or address on it. However if you would like to volunteer for something or you simply want more information, please fill in your details at the end of the questionnaire.
How do I complete the Questionnaire?
The questionnaire should take about 30 minutes to complete. Please use a black or blue pen to tick the boxes and write comments. Please follow the instructions for each question as some questions just require a tick and some a written response. If you do not want to answer a question just leave it blank.
