A mixture of regular and new faces spawned a high volume of conversation resulting in new friendships made and others cemented with a wonderful atmosphere throughout the building. The theme of the party was P for Party and we had nearly everyone dressing up, pirates, punks and princesses and much more  - and 43 locals ate, drank and danced to their hearts' content. The first Shute Festival of Literature and Landscape proved a huge success, drawing over 200 visitors to two days of stimulating and inspiring talks, film showings, workshops and discussions. The festival, which took place over the weekend of 29th and 30th October, brought together an eclectic range of speakers, ensuring visitors enjoyed a rich variety of topics in the intimate and beautiful surroundings of Shute Church, lit professionally for the occasion by Axe Valley student Jed Holmes, of Simply Stage. This event organised by Ella Sweetland and her team of helpers took place in Shute Church on Saturday  15th and Sunday 16th of October 2016. Ella writes: "On behalf of friends of Shute Church, I  would like to thank everyone who supported the history weekend.  We hope you agree that it was a marvellous weekend which brought all the community together and encouraged old friends to come and visit us again.
