We had a very successful Summer Barbecue yesterday evening(July 18th) at Rob and Fran’s wonderful place at Little Yardbury. A huge thank you to both of them for this.The weather was better than anticipated and a fine time was had by a large group of people both young and old, enjoying the food, drinks, games and company. It would appear that we made a profit of about £411 – which considering there was no entrance fee or ticket money, was amazing. Saturday was a great day for the Umbourne Women’s Institute, for it marked the opening by Lady Carew Pole of their new hall, erected on land belonging to the Shute estate at Painters Cross, Shute Marsh. From the end of the Sixteenth Century until a few years ago, the Pole family lived at Shute House, now used as a girls’ school.

Information about and for the trustees.
The Trustees essentially run and look after the Umborne Hall. They are responsible for Hall finances, maintenance, safety, bookings and the like. In addition to looking after the Hall, and with the help of the wider community, the trustees also organise a number of annual community events. Every year (normally in the winter) there is an AGM which frequently involves the appointment of new trustees as other trustees stand down.
