Shute Churchyard Wildlife

Shute Churchyard Wildlife:

Join the Wildscapes team for a wander around your churchyard (Shute) and discover how it provides a sanctuary for wildlife.
Shute Church:
Tuesday 12th June 2012.
Meet by the church gate at 7.45pm.
To be followed by a bat hunt with Fiona Reynolds.

Churchyard ecology
Churchyards provide a sanctuary for wildlife, with little disturbance from people and a range of different mini-habitats. Most churchyards have veteran Yew trees, often many …

February 2012 Weather Report

February 2012.

(photo Helene Buse)
This month was a tale of two halves with a unity theme
with regard to rainfall.
The cold spell that started gently at the end of January

-9.9C on the night of the 4th. Conditions eased for a day or two around

2012 started with the residual mildness of 2011, with the
minimum temperature on the 1st being the same as on the 31st December
at 9.4,  the warmest night of the month. Other than four or five days in
the middle and the last few days when the continental high pressure
brought cold easterlies, January was mild, sometimes remarkably so, with
my highest reading of 14C occuring on the 18th.  Overall, with a mean
temperature of just over 6C,  this was the mildest January since 2008.
Even so,  I recorded eleven …
