Steam up at Penventon, Shute

The “Steam-up” is an annual event held early summer in the grounds of Liz and Tony Gosling’s house, Penventon, in Shute. This is a whole family occasion and the great attraction is the opportunity to have a ride on Tony’s miniature steam train as it huffs and puffs around the immaculate gardens of the house. Liz provides her famous Devon cream teas. There is a raffle and ice cream and cakes are also on sale. Children can  be amused with Rob’s giant “noughts and crosses” and “splat the rat”. This year, …

It would be very interesting to create an album of old photos of the hall, both inside and outside.
This photograph belonged to the late Joan Dommett. Can anyone name any person on the photo? Can it be dated?

If you have any old photos, please let us have them. They can be scanned, put on the website and returned to you – with our thanks.
In case you have already forgotten what the old hall looked like:

Yesterday, as most of you know and indeed as most of you were there at the hall, we had our annual event called the Umborne Ug. New Hall News

Painting of the windows ( 3 coats of Sadolin) is now well under way and the plaster board is up inside, ready for the plasterers to come in and finish off. Then the electrics can be installed. Rob is so committed to painting windows that he spent his 51st birthday with paint brush in hand.

Maybe we should leave the plasterboard pink?!! Again this week the weather has been in our favour, long may it last.
Thanks again to everyone for helping with so many jobs over the last few weeks
